The Pugwash Bay team believes that learning through exploration allows children to develop skills, such as problem solving, negotiation, creativity and imagination. It enables the child to develop a knowledge and understanding of the world around them by interacting with others.

Heuristic means “serves to discover” or “gain an understanding of” and is derived from the Greek “eurisco”. This type of play opportunity enables the child to set their own pace and level, one that they feel comfortable and at ease with.

Give and take-We will use treasure baskets which are filled with a range of ordinary objects that are safe for babies to handle and put in their mouths such as woolly balls, large cotton reels, bath sponge etc. The collection will vary in colour, size, texture, shape, smell, so that babies can in anyway they wish. The babies are settled down around the treasure basket and we watch them explore and discover.
