Parents and Child - Activities Below

All the Pugwash Bay team maintain the highest level of commitment to our parents and, for this reason we wish to ensure that they have regular contact with us through meeting our staff everyday, discussing any matters they wish with our centre managers, daily diaries, newsletters etc.

The needs of our parents are of paramount importance to us and the team is there to help you in any way we can.

Our staff at all levels are available to speak directly with the parents to discuss their children’s progress or to address any concerns or questions they may have.

We actively encourage our parents to have regular contact with us and they are always welcome in during the day. We endeavour to provide a support system for parents, from their child’s first day at the centre, through to when they start school.

Parent and Child Activities

Birth to three months

Sensory Experiences:

Exposing your baby to many different sensations will broaden his awareness of himself and the world.

  • Try rubbing your baby's arms with different fabrics. Satin, wool and towelling are good examples to start with.
  • Give your baby an opportunity to experience different smells. Go outside and smell a flower or try a freshly cut orange.

Be careful not to overstimulate your baby. Watch out for signs that he is tired of the game.

Three to six months

Changing Hands:

You can help strengthen the neural circuits in the brain by helping your baby practise changing hands. This game develops small motor skills and hand eye coordination.

  • Put a small rattle into one of her hands.
  • Shake her hand with the rattle.
  • Show her how to transfer the rattle to her other hand. These are the steps:

1) Put her empty hand on the rattle and she will automatically grab it.

2) Undo her fingers on the first hand, then kiss her fingers.
