ECCE Explained

The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Scheme provides early childhood care and education for children of pre-school age. Children are eligible for the ECCE scheme if they are aged over 3 years and not older than 5 and a half years.

The State pays a capitation fee directly to participating playschools and daycare services. In return, they provide a pre-school service free of charge to all children within the qualifying age range for a set number of hours over a set period of weeks.

Recent revisions to the ECCE scheme now entitle qualifying children to two free preschool years depending on their date of birth. The total amount of weeks a child is entitled to will depend on their age. To calculate your child’s entitlement use the calculator below. To start the enrolment process, please get in touch.

If children are currently attending full days or long hours within Pugwash Bay then the subsidy received from the state for the ECCE scheme will be deducted from their fees between September and June inclusive.

The Hours for ECCE are 09:30 to 12:30 or 13:30 to 16:30, Monday to Friday for 38 weeks of the year between September and June.

To avoid disappointment and to avail of the scheme through Pugwash Bay, please register your interest at [email protected] or contact our office for further information on 042 9338055.
